How to Tap Into A Never Ending Stream of Blogging Ideas

May 24, 2015 by Paul 4 Comments

A very common complaint I hear from people who struggle to blog is that they can’t think of anything to blog about.

Usually they’ll say something like “Paul, my blog is about _________ but I’m not really an expert in that field and I can’t think of a good post to write.”

Trust me, I’ve been there.

You sit down, and you try to think of a blog post to write or a video to shoot on your niche topic.

I used to get stuck not knowing WHAT to write about or WHAT to make videos about.

Then I had this realization, which flicked a switch in my mind and ever since then I’ve found it really easy to have a never ending stream of blogging ideas enter my mind.

So what was this switch?

Well, here’s the thing…

… your MIND has a built in filter inside your head.

What this filter does is it categorizes certain things in your life into little compartments.

This filter places the majority of everything you know how to do, and know a lot about into a compartment called “super easy, I know how to do this”.

Then, this filter takes EVERYTHING inside this compartment and it makes you believe that whatever is in there is NOT WORTH making a blog post about because it makes you think that everyone out there already knows the same thing that you do.

Meaning, if you think about writing a blog post or making a video about one of the items inside this “super easy, I know how to do this”, your mind just says to you “Nah, don’t bother…everyone already knows how to do this and nobody will find it useful.”

This is where the problem lies.

Your mind is essentially filtering 99.999% of ALL of your wisdom / expertise using this filter and making you think that there’s no point blogging about any of those things.

And then, when you think about OTHER things that you don’t yet know how to do, like things you haven’t yet figured out, your mind says to you “NO, you can’t blog about that because you don’t even know how to do that yet.”

So then what are you left with?

NOTHING!

All the things that you already know about and know how to do…. your mind filters out those things by thinking that everyone already knows how to do those things…

and all the things that you don’t yet know how to do … your mind filters out those things by thinking that you don’t know how to do them yet so how can you blog about them?

In order to STOP this, you have to stop discounting the value behind your wisdom just because you KNOW something and it’s easy for you to do that thing.

When you flip this switch in your mind, you’ll start to realize that you know SO MUCH stuff that you could create a million blog posts and still not run out of content to blog about…

… as long as you STOP discounting things that come easy to you.

Let me give you some examples of people who flipped that switch and didn’t allow their mind to stop them from creating content that seems “too easy” and “everyone already knows this, right?”

Example #1 – Boiling Water

Have you ever boiled water?

Of course, right?!

Everyone has!  Who the heck doesn’t know how to boil water?

Well, this video has over 7,000 views and 35 likes.

OBVIOUSLY there are thousands of people out there who searched for this because they didn’t know how to boil water.

Crazy, right?

Here’s another example.

Example #2 – How To Use A Drill

Do you know how to use a cordless drill?

Well, if so, then you could have made this video and gotten over 63,000 views on it and 483 likes.

Example #3 – How to Wash Your Car

Do you know how to wash your car?

Well, then you could have made a video like this one, which has over 900,000 views on it.

Now, these are just a few examples, and obviously they might be related to your main blog topic or your niche market, but the reason I showed these three examples is to show you how your mind overlooks and filters out things that you DO KNOW but don’t even realize you know!

What you want to do is to start thinking about your blog topic or your niche market and start thinking about what things you know about that you don’t even realize you know about.

Go back a number of years in you mind to when you were a beginner…

…what questions did YOU have?

Why not start creating some content answering those questions or sharing some of the things you learned.

Your blog posts don’t have to be about something insanely revolutionary…

… in fact some of the best and most successful blog posts and videos on the Internet are VERY basic in nature.

They share an idea, or answer questions that are VERY basic.

Don’t let your mind trick you into believing that just because it’s something easy and basic, that everyone already knows that thing.

They don’t.

Starting a Skitarii Army for Warhammer 40k

May 23, 2015 by Paul 1 Comment

It’s been a few years since I’ve had time to invest in my tabletop gaming hobby.

I have been meaning to get back into it for quite some time now, but my focus has been on building my blog income online and helping my team-mates to build up their incomes as well.

For the last month or two though I’ve been really getting the intuitive nudge to get back into paining miniatures as I find it a very fun and relaxing hobby that really helps me to quiet my mind after a day of building my businesses.

When I got sick with the flu the last few weeks I once again got the intuitive nudge to slow down and make time in my schedule to unplug from the online world and to have some fun with this hobby.

So today I took a trip down to my local gamin store and picked up my new Warhammer 40k army that I’ll be building and painting – The Skitarii.

I’ve been away from anything Warhammer for a few years now, so I’ve got some catching up to do on the new Codexes and all the new changes they’ve introduced, but it all sounds like a lot of fun!

Codex Adeptus Mechanicus – Skitarii

The firs thing I picked up is the Codex for the Adeptus Mechanicus – Skitarii so I can learn all about this new army.

Skitarii Codex

Adeptus Mechanicus Ironstrider

As I haven’t yet read through the Codex and I don’t really know which units I want in my army yet, I decided to just pick up a couple of units that look really cool that I know I’ll enjoy painting.

The first one was the Adeptus Mechanicus Ironstrider.

This thing looks awesome.  Can’t wait to start painting it!

Adeptus Mechanicus Ironstrider

Adeptus Mechanicus – Kataphron Battle Servitors

The other units I picked up for this army are the Adeptus Mechanicus Kataphron Battle Servitors.

These guys are awesome looking as well.

Half man, half tank?  How can you go wrong!? 🙂

Adeptus Mechanicus Kataphron Battle Servitors

Skitarii Datacards

Finally, the last thing I picked up was the Skitarii Datacards.

Skitarii Datacards

Can’t wait to start building this army.

I opened up a few of the boxes and looked at some of the units and the detail is amazing.

What about you?

What’s your hobby?

What do you do to relax your mind and to relieve some stress after work or outside of building your business?

Are You Too Good to Be Successful?

May 22, 2015 by Paul 2 Comments

“Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do.” ~ Jim Rohn

One of the key elements to achieving success in any area of your life comes from fostering an attitude of staying humble, grateful and serving others.

If there was one attitude that I have seen destroy a person’s chances of achieving success more than any other it would be the attitude of thinking that you are too good to do certain things.

As an entrepreneur I value my time and I outsource certain tasks that are not my strength to others who are much better than I am at doing those tasks…

However, I don’t have an attitude of “Oh I’m too good to do that” like some people do.  Instead I foster an attitude of gratitude for others who help me by doing the things that are not my strength.

For example, my wife and I are both entrepreneurs and in the last few years we have started to outsource our house cleaning to professionals who can do a much better job at it than we can.

My strength doesn’t lie in cleaning my house, so I prefer to hire someone else to do that for me while I focus on the things I AM good at such as making money online.

However, even though I have someone who comes to clean my home, I don’t see myself as “too good” or “above” doing that kind of work.

Instead I am grateful for the work of people who do help me with those tasks, and sometimes I do roll up my sleeve and do some cleaning myself.

In business, there are certain tasks that I outsource or hire out to other people, but once again I don’t have an attitude of thinking that I’m “too good” to do that.

Sometimes when people get into a business, their minds create these rules and labels where they start to think that they are too good to do certain things in that business just because at their last job or business they didn’t have to do those things.

This is a huge mistake.

To be successful you have to look at what is required in your business to achieve success and then find a way to get those things done.

If you can outsource those things that are not your strengths, then do that, but if you don’t have the funds or the means to outsource certain things then just roll up your sleeves and get things done!

Especially in a new business venture, you may need to suck it up and do certain things that you don’t really enjoy doing or would prefer not to do, for a period of time.

One of the reasons that I often see young people get into businesses online and achieve success very quickly is because they’re willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.

This is usually because their current job or the jobs they previously worked are entry level jobs where they had to do everything from dealing with angry customers to cleaning up puke in the bathrooms.

I’ve done my share of that kind of stuff when I used to work at McDonald’s way back in the 1990’s.

Compared to having to put up with doing that kind of work, it’s pretty easy and fun to do any kind of work when working on an online business.

For example, blogging on a regular basis is EASY compared to working at McDonald’s and cleaning up puke in the bathrooms, right?

Now, contrast that with some people who have been working in the corporate world for 20 or 30 years and who have worked their way up to a cushy job where they basically just go to work and put in their 8 hours – mostly surfing the Internet during that whole time – and when those types of people try to start their own business they start to think that they’re too good to do certain things.

Don’t get me wrong, having 20-30 years of real life work experience CAN be a HUGE asset for someone who is starting a brand new business, but only if they approach their entrepreneurial venture with an attitude of being willing to do what it takes to succeed.

Any sense of entitlement, or feeling like you’re “too good” to do certain things will destroy your entrepreneurial chances for success.

You’re not going to have to do things that you don’t enjoy doing forever, but you MAY need to be willing to do certain things for a period of time until you get to the next level in your business.

Be willing to do that.

Be willing to DO whatever it takes to make your business successful.

Don’t let your pride and this sense of “Oh I’m too good to be doing that kind of stuff again…” kill your chances at success.

Have you ever worked with an employee who felt this way about their job?  Like they’re too good to do certain things?

Have you ever tried to coach or mentor someone in business who had this type of “Oh I’m too good for this” attitude?

Have you ever found yourself thinking this way?

Leave a comment below and let me know.  I’d love to hear your comments on this.
